So I stumbled across a self portrait I took of myself and my little one in my old family home where I grew up. I took this image right before my parents sold their house of 34 years. It is a window outside my childhood bedroom, a window that I sat at so often and a view that is etched into my memory. The feeling that I felt looking at this image was overpowering. And I think that is because of the memory attached. The sadness, the happiness. And it got me thinking…. what feelings will come up for my kids when they look back at images of them around our current home? Do I capture that enough? Do you? Welcome little Hamish!

One of my favourite parts of my job is seeing couples, whose weddings I photographed, grow and create their little families. Kat and Mitch’s wedding day was filled with joy and laughter and that was very much present in their home with their two fur babies and beautiful baby boy Hamish. I’m so happy for you guys! Taking time to reflect today... Does anyone else feel as though 2020 was such a long time ago? Looking back, I wish I had embraced the time a little more. But I remember the daily struggle vividly and yet now I sometime yearn for time to slow down and life to be less busy. So that is what I am leaning into. To be a little more present and stop the rushing. 2020 helped shape us all in many ways and I think kids in particular. These two surprised me with their resilience.

Where you need 3 of you to fulfill the needs of everyone else and you are left exhausted and the next you feel so full of love and pride that you couldn’t imagine life without them. The struggles are real. And so worth it. It has been a tough month but with each day we are getting closer at finding the right balance and sorting through priorities.
